Dts problem with dual installation of sql 2000 and 2005 on same box

I have Sql 2000 installed first, and a second install of Sql2005 installed
as an instance on the same win 2003 server.
Dts 2000 designer is raising errors on initialisation. When you attempt to
create a new package there are no icons in the connections toolbox.
I am sure this is being cased by the dual server installation, but is there
is a known workaround to get both versions working correctly on the same
box.

Also, you may want to reinstall SQL 2000 client tool to see if it helps.

Ended up going back to sql2000 after uninstalling 2005.
I really need both operational at any time (i'm a contract DBA) so it was
back to 2000 in this instance. Im working on a new laptop (dell inspiron
9300, 2.0GB Centrino with 2gb ram) running win2003 server.
I tried running sql2005 on a virtual server 2005 but it was unusuable with
1gb assigned to the virtual pc, so i had to abandon that route.
Only option now is sql2005 on a dual boot (i thought we had got past this
requirement) unless you know better?
The server OS allows me to install server dependancies, It appears a
centrino Mobile processor was not the best choice for the background
processing this config needs

I worked with all the 2005 betas on Windows 2003 VPCs with a laptop that had
a similar spec and it performed fine so your results are puzzling.

I installed both SQL 2000 and 2005 on the same machine without this
problem. Also, I found similar issue was resolved by applying SQL server
2000 SP4. You may want try this to see if it is helpful.

It all set up ok. It was when you started to use them to mimic an
installation that the problems started. ie network the servers and talk
across them.
for example main server win 2003| sql2000 IIS running web services against
the db , viz studio on it for development.
Biztalk server on virtual pc with Sql2005 This also forced viz studio
installation on same virtual server for dev against the biztalk objects
(Required by biztalk installation in error I beleive)
Win xp installation To Virtual pc to get stuf working that required XP for
installation (drivers wLan bluetooth devices etc)
Then i needed DTS to ETL some stuff from Sql200 - to sql 2005 (or ssis setup
to pull which wwould have been nice ) and Thats when the Config started to
get confused about what versions of "Stuff" was where and as youve
suggested, before i knew it, I was in a new version of DLL hell. with its
obvious installation order requirements.
AS biztalk was the only remaining beta in the bunch it is easy to blame it
for my problems. Although Icant discount plain old horsepower, or a recent
version of virtual pc for 2003!
The only real way to set up this stuff seems to be a few interconnected
laptops! and remote desktop (Which coincidentally appears to have been the
setup used at launch tour!)

dts import/export problems

Im having trouble trying to export data from one sql server instance to another on a separate server.
i choose 'sql server authentication' as the option for destination but my username / password is not accepted. user failed error. i presume this would be a username / password within the 'security/logins' of the destination server? i have access to this server so know the username / password is set up in there.
why is this not working? i have also tried an import from the destination server, but this creates the same login failed error.
how can i connect between these 2 servers and run this export?

What is amount of data you are moving?
Have a look at BACKUP/RESTORE commands.
Have you specified an output file to see what is exactly the error?

not sure what you mean by output file but error i get when i click on refresh is -
Error Description: Login failed for user 'EVANSM'
Context: Error during initialization of the provider.
i presume that when i click refresh the login should be verified and i can select the server / database names from the dropdowns?

Look, I try get more info because I think it is matter of user's permission
or something wrong with a connection.

Unless you have correctly configured for Kerberos Delegation in the Active
Directory, you will have to create a SQL Server Authenticated login account
on the destination SQL Server to use, not the Windows Account. Also, the
destination SQL Server will have to be configured for mixed-mode
authentication.
Check with your DBA/AD Admin about the current configurations.

in security there is a 'start and run sql server in the following account' option that has a username and password entered.
is this what you mean by a SQL Server Authenticated login account?

dts import/export problems

Im having trouble trying to export data from one sql server instance to another on a separate server.
i choose 'sql server authentication' as the option for destination but my username / password is not accepted. user failed error. i presume this would be a username / password within the 'security/logins' of the destination server? i have access to this s
erver so know the username / password is set up in there.
why is this not working? i have also tried an import from the destination server, but this creates the same login failed error.
how can i connect between these 2 servers and run this export?

What is amount of data you are moving?
Have a look at BACKUP/RESTORE commands.
Have you specified an output file to see what is exactly the error?

|||im only moving a table with about 150 entries, hence trying to selectively export this table rather than backup / restore the whole database, which i would rather not do as im unsure the data in every table has been kept up to date.
not sure what you mean by output file but error i get when i click on refresh is -
Error Description: Login failed for user 'EVANSM'
Context: Error during initialization of the provider.
i presume that when i click refresh the login should be verified and i can select the server / database names from the dropdowns?

Does this user have login on desination server, does he/she exist there?

Look, I try get more info because I think it is matter of user's permission
or something wrong with a connection.

is there anything within sql server that i need to alter to allow remote connections via dts import / export?

|||Unless you have correctly configured for Kerberos Delegation in the Active
Directory, you will have to create a SQL Server Authenticated login account
on the destination SQL Server to use, not the Windows Account. Also, the
destination SQL Server will have to be configured for mixed-mode
authentication.
Check with your DBA/AD Admin about the current configurations.

in security there is a 'start and run sql server in the following account' option that has a username and password entered.
is this what you mean by a SQL Server Authenticated login account?
