DTS problem: ActiveX Script Task Properties dialog box

My ActiveX Script Task Properties dialog box has the "functions" window
maximized and I
can no longer get at my code.
I can not find any way to resize it.
Please ...
If anyone has come across this and can help...
it will be much appreciated.
I've never had this happen before.

Dts problem with dual installation of sql 2000 and 2005 on same box

I have Sql 2000 installed first, and a second install of Sql2005 installed
as an instance on the same win 2003 server.
Dts 2000 designer is raising errors on initialisation. When you attempt to
create a new package there are no icons in the connections toolbox.
I am sure this is being cased by the dual server installation, but is there
is a known workaround to get both versions working correctly on the same
box.

Also, you may want to reinstall SQL 2000 client tool to see if it helps.

Ended up going back to sql2000 after uninstalling 2005.
I really need both operational at any time (i'm a contract DBA) so it was
back to 2000 in this instance. Im working on a new laptop (dell inspiron
9300, 2.0GB Centrino with 2gb ram) running win2003 server.
I tried running sql2005 on a virtual server 2005 but it was unusuable with
1gb assigned to the virtual pc, so i had to abandon that route.
Only option now is sql2005 on a dual boot (i thought we had got past this
requirement) unless you know better?
The server OS allows me to install server dependancies, It appears a
centrino Mobile processor was not the best choice for the background
processing this config needs

I worked with all the 2005 betas on Windows 2003 VPCs with a laptop that had
a similar spec and it performed fine so your results are puzzling.

It all set up ok. It was when you started to use them to mimic an
installation that the problems started. ie network the servers and talk
across them.
for example main server win 2003| sql2000 IIS running web services against
the db , viz studio on it for development.
Biztalk server on virtual pc with Sql2005 This also forced viz studio
installation on same virtual server for dev against the biztalk objects
(Required by biztalk installation in error I beleive)
Win xp installation To Virtual pc to get stuf working that required XP for
installation (drivers wLan bluetooth devices etc)
Then i needed DTS to ETL some stuff from Sql200 - to sql 2005 (or ssis setup
to pull which wwould have been nice ) and Thats when the Config started to
get confused about what versions of "Stuff" was where and as youve
suggested, before i knew it, I was in a new version of DLL hell. with its
obvious installation order requirements.
AS biztalk was the only remaining beta in the bunch it is easy to blame it
for my problems. Although Icant discount plain old horsepower, or a recent
version of virtual pc for 2003!
The only real way to set up this stuff seems to be a few interconnected
laptops! and remote desktop (Which coincidentally appears to have been the
setup used at launch tour!)

Ended up going back to sql2000 after uninstalling 2005.
I really need both operational at any time (i'm a contract DBA) so it was
back to 2000 in this instance. Im working on a new laptop (dell inspiron
9300, 2.0GB Centrino with 2gb ram) running win2003 server.
I tried running sql2005 on a virtual server 2005 but it was unusuable with
1gb assigned to the virtual pc, so i had to abandon that route.
Only option now is sql2005 on a dual boot (i thought we had got past this
requirement) unless you know better?
The server OS allows me to install server dependancies, It appears a
centrino Mobile processor was not the best choice for the background
processing this config needs

I installed both SQL 2000 and 2005 on the same machine without this
problem. Also, I found similar issue was resolved by applying SQL server
2000 SP4. You may want try this to see if it is helpful.

It all set up ok. It was when you started to use them to mimic an
installation that the problems started. ie network the servers and talk
across them.
for example main server win 2003| sql2000 IIS running web services against
the db , viz studio on it for development.
Biztalk server on virtual pc with Sql2005 This also forced viz studio
installation on same virtual server for dev against the biztalk objects
(Required by biztalk installation in error I beleive)
Win xp installation To Virtual pc to get stuf working that required XP for
installation (drivers wLan bluetooth devices etc)
Then i needed DTS to ETL some stuff from Sql200 - to sql 2005 (or ssis setup
to pull which wwould have been nice ) and Thats when the Config started to
get confused about what versions of "Stuff" was where and as youve
suggested, before i knew it, I was in a new version of DLL hell. with its
obvious installation order requirements.
AS biztalk was the only remaining beta in the bunch it is easy to blame it
for my problems. Although Icant discount plain old horsepower, or a recent
version of virtual pc for 2003!
The only real way to set up this stuff seems to be a few interconnected
laptops! and remote desktop (Which coincidentally appears to have been the
setup used at launch tour!)

DTS packages and SQL 2005 upgrade/issues

Case one - upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 in the same box

(actually it is a copy of the test box being upgraded)

Case two - install fresh SQL 2005 in a different box

Results for running (dts packages migrated to dtsx) in SSIS from a job

Note all other jobs in (Case one) using the old DTSRUN works fine, but new jobs trying to run migrated packages fail. Migrating this new package to (Case two) runs. How do I troubleshoot this? The process exit code was -532459699.

Is this exit code something that can be looked up?

You should set up logging to get more descriptive messages.

Have you run the package manually to see if it gives different results or where it fails?

Manually runs fine for both cases from within SQL Server BI Dev Studio and also the SQL Server Mmgt Studio.

In SQL 2005 I installed the dts compatability stuff but it does not give me
the DTSRUNUI application. Any suggestions other than use SSIS?

DTS package and Firewall

Hi all, I have some DTS packages that are used to import /export data to a
SQL box located outside in a DMZ behind a firewall.

We need to open up a port in the firewall so that the Internal Server can
communicate (Execute DTS packages against) with the SQL box located outside
the DMZ.

How do I find out what Port we need to open so that the Internal SQL box can
communicate with the external SQL box?

In general, a DTS package is like any other SQL client:

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...2&Product=sql2k

If you have a variety of tasks in your package (ActiveX, FTP etc.)
then you might require additional ports to be opened, but that depends
on exactly what those tasks do, what protocols they use etc.

DTS Migration Wizard question

Hi,
I've upgraded from 2000 to 2005, 2005 on a new server too.
I have moved a DTS package from the 2000 box to 2005 box & have performed th
DTS Migration Wizard.
Now I want to fiddle with the design of the package in Business Intelligence
Design Studio. Where the heck is it (the migrated package)? How do I open
the package in this wierd GUI?

DTS Import

I have a development database and a live database. I want to do a DTS
export from the live box to the dev box to sync the databases up. The
problem is that the development database has tables, stored procedures
associated to applications that aren't live yet because they are still
be tested or aren't done being programmed. If I do the import will
these tables get deleted or will they remain untouched?

Usually you would re-sync the data by scripting the changes from the base
version or (more prefereble) scripting the objects and keeping them in
version control, you can then use an upgrade script on the current version
to bring it into line with the development system.
Tools that may do this include SQL Compare from Red Gate www.red-gate.com
DBGhost www.innovartis.co.uk/Home.aspx and possibly Quest Central for SQL
