Dts problem with dual installation of sql 2000 and 2005 on same box

I have Sql 2000 installed first, and a second install of Sql2005 installed
as an instance on the same win 2003 server.
Dts 2000 designer is raising errors on initialisation. When you attempt to
create a new package there are no icons in the connections toolbox.
I am sure this is being cased by the dual server installation, but is there
is a known workaround to get both versions working correctly on the same
box.
Colin RobinsonHi Colin
This does not mention the DTS designer
http://www.aspfaq.com/sql2005/show.asp?id=4 but it could be something
similar.

It all set up ok. It was when you started to use them to mimic an
installation that the problems started. ie network the servers and talk
across them.
for example main server win 2003| sql2000 IIS running web services against
the db , viz studio on it for development.
Biztalk server on virtual pc with Sql2005 This also forced viz studio
installation on same virtual server for dev against the biztalk objects
(Required by biztalk installation in error I beleive)
Win xp installation To Virtual pc to get stuf working that required XP for
installation (drivers wLan bluetooth devices etc)
Then i needed DTS to ETL some stuff from Sql200 - to sql 2005 (or ssis setup
to pull which wwould have been nice ) and Thats when the Config started to
get confused about what versions of "Stuff" was where and as youve
suggested, before i knew it, I was in a new version of DLL hell. with its
obvious installation order requirements.
AS biztalk was the only remaining beta in the bunch it is easy to blame it
for my problems. Although Icant discount plain old horsepower, or a recent
version of virtual pc for 2003!
The only real way to set up this stuff seems to be a few interconnected
laptops! and remote desktop (Which coincidentally appears to have been the
setup used at launch tour!)

This does not mention the DTS designer
http://www.aspfaq.com/sql2005/show.asp?id=4 but it could be something
similar.

Ended up going back to sql2000 after uninstalling 2005.
I really need both operational at any time (i'm a contract DBA) so it was
back to 2000 in this instance. Im working on a new laptop (dell inspiron
9300, 2.0GB Centrino with 2gb ram) running win2003 server.
I tried running sql2005 on a virtual server 2005 but it was unusuable with
1gb assigned to the virtual pc, so i had to abandon that route.
Only option now is sql2005 on a dual boot (i thought we had got past this
requirement) unless you know better?
The server OS allows me to install server dependancies, It appears a
centrino Mobile processor was not the best choice for the background
processing this config needs

DTS packages and SQL 2005 upgrade/issues

Case one - upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 in the same box

(actually it is a copy of the test box being upgraded)

Case two - install fresh SQL 2005 in a different box

Results for running (dts packages migrated to dtsx) in SSIS from a job

Note all other jobs in (Case one) using the old DTSRUN works fine, but new jobs trying to run migrated packages fail. Migrating this new package to (Case two) runs. How do I troubleshoot this? The process exit code was -532459699.

Is this exit code something that can be looked up?

You should set up logging to get more descriptive messages.

Have you run the package manually to see if it gives different results or where it fails?

Manually runs fine for both cases from within SQL Server BI Dev Studio and also the SQL Server Mmgt Studio.

Got a link to the logging setting you mentioned earlier.

DTS Mail task breaks after SQL 2005 uninstall/install

When I try to add a Mail Task in my SQL 2000 DTS, I get a message "Please make sure semmap90.dll is installed. When I try to register that dll using regsrv32.exe, it says the entry point is not found.

Any ideas on how to get my e-mail task back?I should point out that I've installed, uninstalled, and then reinstalled SQL 2005 on this machine.|||DTS is now called SQL Server Integration Services. Could you repost this question in the SSIS forum (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=80&SiteID=1)?|||Go to the 80 directory that's installed with SQL Server 2000 -

(\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn)

Rename the semmap.dll file to semmap90.dll|||

I've been looking for that answer for 3 days now - thank you so much DanaDBA!

--Wil

|||I'm messing around with this more and here's what I've found now -

SQL Server 2005 will not open the DTS package unless you install - Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components

Once I installed this package, I broke SQL Server 2000

completely. Now I can open the DTS package in 2005, but I'm still

getting some buggy issues. And, now when I reinstall SQL Server 2000,

it will not work.

Make sure you make these changes on a test server. I'll post an update after I get re-configured and test some more.

|||

Ok - I have this working on 2000 and 2005, but I went

through some hurdles to get here.

When I installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer

Components, I noticed the \80\Tools\Binn directory had both dll files -

semmap.dll and semmap90.dll (both were not there originally). SQL Server 2000

was throwing tons of errors when loading enterprise manager.

I uninstalled the DTS designer components, still had errors.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled SQL Server 2000. It still would not work

until I applied SP4.

SQL Server 2000 is now working again - now for the DTS mail

issue

When trying to open the send mail task in 2000, I got an

error regarding a missing file-

semmap90.rll (RLL) in this directory. -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL

Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033

This directory had the semmap.rll file, so I made a copy of

it and then renamed it to semmap90.rll. Now this resources folder has

semmap90.rll and semmap.rll. Both are the same exact files, just different

names.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\

- There should be two dll files in here (semmap.dll and semmap90.dll).

If you do not rename the original semmap.dll to semmap90.dll, prior to

installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components, you will only

have one of the files (was able to verify this on another system - 2000 SP4,

2005 and the DTS designer components were all installed).

I got this working in a pretty funky way, but it's working.

Not sure at this point what else I may have broken.

Good luck. Email me if you have any questions.

drivkind@.gmail.com

- Dana Rivkind

|||Here's a quick summary of the files and versions I have. Everything still works fine.

I'm running SQL Server 2000, SP4.

This directory needs two DLL's:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\

semmap.dll - (version 2000.80.2039.0)

semmap90.dll - (version 2000.80.194.0)

This directory needs two RLL's (I made a copy of semmap.rll and named it semmap90.rll):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033

semmap.rll - (version 2000.80.194.0)

semmap90.rll - (version 2000.80.194.0)
- Dana|||Thanks! Note you want to Copy (not rename) but this did the trick!

DTS Mail task breaks after SQL 2005 uninstall/install

SQL Server 2005 will not open the DTS package unless you install - Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components
Once I installed this package, I broke SQL Server 2000 completely. Now I can open the DTS package in 2005, but I'm still getting some buggy issues. And, now when I reinstall SQL Server 2000, it will not work.
Make sure you make these changes on a test server. I'll post an update after I get re-configured and test some more.|||

Ok - I have this working on 2000 and 2005, but I went through some hurdles to get here.

When I installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components, I noticed the \80\Tools\Binn directory had both dll files - semmap.dll and semmap90.dll (both were not there originally). SQL Server 2000 was throwing tons of errors when loading enterprise manager.

I uninstalled the DTS designer components, still had errors. I uninstalled and then reinstalled SQL Server 2000. It still would not work until I applied SP4.

SQL Server 2000 is now working again - now for the DTS mail issue

When trying to open the send mail task in 2000, I got an error regarding a missing file- semmap90.rll (RLL) in this directory. -
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033
This directory had the semmap.rll file, so I made a copy of it and then renamed it to semmap90.rll. Now this resources folder has semmap90.rll and semmap.rll. Both are the same exact files, just different names.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\
- There should be two dll files in here (semmap.dll and semmap90.dll). If you do not rename the original semmap.dll to semmap90.dll, prior to installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components, you will only have one of the files (was able to verify this on another system - 2000 SP4, 2005 and the DTS designer components were all installed).

I got this working in a pretty funky way, but it's working. Not sure at this point what else I may have broken.

Good luck. Email me if you have any questions.

DTS Locking up

I am importing some files using DTS on a new install of SQL 2000. It is
randomly locking up. It will run x rows then stops. At that point, I
cannot do anything with SQL Server. I cannot even stop and restart the
service.
2k3 Small Business Server
SQL 2000 SP3a
4GB Ram
2TB array (3ware 7506-8)
3.2GHz CPU
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
