We have created DTS jobs which copies data from one server to another and truncates the destination before copying the data from source. when we run the job manually it runs fine, but when schedule its failing with the below errors.

please suggest to over come this problem.
TIAMy guess is that the DTS job is scheduled to run as a different NT logon than the one you are using to test it interactively. The scheduled logon is probably missing one or more permissions needed for the DTS package.

DTS Question
copies Data from a Excel Spreasheet to a SQL Server table then executes
a user Stored Proc
What I am wanting to do is if for some reason the Stored Proc errors
out because of bad data , I would like to see the errors reported in a
file so that it can be reviewed and I was not sure if there is a way to
output the errors in DTS. When I run the Stored Proc theough Query
Analyzer I see the errors in Query Analyzer, I basically want to see
the same information after running the DTS. Can this be done, if so
how.
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
ThanksI would use the DTSRUN command to execute the DTS package. On the DTSRUN
command you can use the /L option to create a log froma DTS package.

Is there any way this option could be incorporated when executed
through enterprise manager.

Yes, if you open up your DTS package and go to Package => Properties you
will see a tab for 'Logging', in the 'Error Handling' section you can specify
a file to log to. Just remember that the file is always appended to and not
overwritten.

it is displaying only the first error. For example in my case the DTS
package executes a stored proc to add logins from the table but in some
cases because of typos the proc cannot grant access because it cannot
find the user account in the domain, but if there are multiple errors
it is displaying the very firts one but when I run the same stored proc
through Query analyzer I see all the errors and I need to see all the
errors so that it can be informed that there are wrong entries in the
table.
Any ideas? Here is the only error I am getting
Step 'DTSStep_DTSExecuteSQLTask_2' failed
Step Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package
Step Error Description:The task reported failure on execution.

DTS Problem
Around 30 million rows are involved. However package fails after 8.6 million
rows with the error:
Error at Source for Row number 8697091. Cannot convert nvarchar value of
('XXX ') to smallint. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
The column on which this fails is a Varchar. It looks like the DTS package
is treating the source package as a Smallint. Is there a way aroun this?I would have thought it is trying to convert a varchar (source value)
to a smallint (destination value) '|||I don't think that is the case. My Source (SQL query) column has values like
2, 'XXX' and the column in the destination table is defined to be varchar.
The Source tables have this column defn as smallint and varchar.

data from various tables which may be int or varchar.

Maybe you could replace 'XXX' with zero in your Select statement.
I know if you extract Data to a text file you skip the exceptions and
write them to an exceptions file.
If you used this approach you could have several txt files, which would
be from your source tables, and then import these in to new table.
Sorry I can't be of any more help
Barry|||I have tried exporting this to a text file, but same issue.
Anyone? All I need I think is a way to tell the DTS that the source column
is varchar.

has integer value.
try this:
select '0e'
Union
Select 1
It will give you the error mesage.
But this one won't:
select '0e'
Union
Select Convert(varchar(5), 1).

DTS Problem
I have created a DTS that copies data from a table in SQL Server to a table
with the same structure, but in Oracle.
Lets suppose I have 100 rows in the origin table. If the DTS fails in he
middle of the operation, supposing the row 55 has an error, the previous
rows are copied to the Oracle table.
How can I now wich rows have been copied?
The DTS runs periodicaly, and I need to know wich rows are copied, so I can
block them on the SQL Server, so they can not be copied again to Oracle.
Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Marcothis is not the proper way. but it works for me.
Make it 2 step.
In the first step, put the -ve of the real value; If the dts succees,
select all the rows with -ve value in the field and put it back to positive.
If it abends, you know all the rows with -ve value came from unsuccessful
import.
you can try other methods like prefixing text field like say lastname with
"SQL-"+lname and select all the rows where lastname like "SQL-" and remove
that.sqlsql

DTS Package Fails after 1000 Rows......
I am having a DTS package which copies data from Foxpro DBF to Sql Server. This DTS package is called in a VB program and Global Variables for DTS is set inside the VB program based on which DTS package copies the Data.
The problem which i am facing is, after 1000 rows transferred using DTS package, DTS package fails and starts giving Errors.
Inside the VB program i have ensured that the DTS package is released properly.
Please help me out, need a solution to this very badly......
Thanks
Pranjal Sharma
This may be an extreme but may be relative. Blank records or special characters being filtered through VB can cause a halt in the transfer.
If it errors after exactly 1000 records every time, I'd look at the content of that record specifically. If it errors after approximately 1000 records, it maybe timing out.

DTS Package - variable Table Name
Hi,
I have created a DTS Package which copies data from a Access Database table to a SQL Server table. The DTS Package is scheduled to execute every 15 minutes. Everyday the source table name will change. Is there a way to reset the source table name everyday without changing it through DTS wizard.
Thanks,
Vivek Gupta
Yes it is possible, you can try to read data table name from input parameters, and pass your parameters on each DTS run from you SQL Job agent.
Thanks

DTS only copies first row
Hi,
I'm trying to copy results from a view on one table to another table in a different db using DTS in SQL Server Management Studio
Both source and destination db's are version 8.0.194
Everything reports as working, but when I check the results, only one row has copied - DTS reports that 1167 rows were copied.
This happens to different sources and destinations so I doubt it's my query.
When I perfrom the same DTS task using the old enterprise manager DTS in SQL Server 2000, everything copies fine.
Obviously one answer is "Use SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager then. " but I'd rather upgrade to 2005 and Management Studio permanently.
Any ideas?
I don't know what the problem may be but you need to identify exactly where the problem is occurring. My first avenue of investigation would be to put a data viewer immediately prior to your destiantion to see how many rows are flowing into it. Check that the number displayed in teh GUI is correct.
